Client after client telling me they didn’t know where to find someone like me. Exhausted by spaces and brands and designs that looked exactly like the one next door. What I gave them didn’t just look different. It felt like them. Like something specific had been pulled out of them and made physical.

That is what happens when you stop creating from someone else’s blueprint and start building from your own signal.

The only reason I stepped away from interior architecture was my children. I am a single mother. There came a point where the work demanded a presence I could not give it without taking it from them. That was not a creative death. It was a redirection.

The Salt Thread Press is what that redirection built. Everything I learned about signal, about instinct, about what happens when you stop creating from the approved version of yourself and start building from the specific, uncalibrated, completely ungovernable core that was always there.

I grew up moving through the world. Italy, Jamaica, London, Barcelona, New York, LA. Each place left something in me. But it was London at sixteen that cracked me open in a way I have never fully closed. I saw racism up close. Ugly and completely unbothered by its own ugliness. Something in me made a decision I did not even have words for yet. That I would never let the smallness of other people’s vision determine the size of mine. That whoever I was, I was going to be that fully and without apology.

That decision got tested everywhere I went after.

I trained in interior architecture. A discipline I fell in love with completely and without reservation. The kind of love that lives in your body before it reaches your brain. Then school got hold of it. Grids. Systems. Rules about what should and should not be done. Every time I pushed toward something that actually made me feel something they pulled me back. Too different. Won’t work. People won’t respond to that.

I was ripping my hair out.

Doing it their way felt like nothing. No charge. No electricity. Nothing that made my blood move or my body feel the work the way I knew work was supposed to be felt. I was in love with this discipline and they were rinsing every last drop of that love out of me with their bullshit systems and their safe, predictable, forgettable rules.

When I got into the world I made a decision. I was going to do it my way. Fully. Without apology. People were either going to love it or they weren’t.
